Toward the
end of his legendary "Knuck If U Buck" freestyle, Lil Wayne playfully shoots down the notion of anyone
snatching the chain off his neck. "I'll be damned, mama, they know
who I am, mama," he raps in the verse. "I'm still your little boy,
but to them, I'm the man, mama."
There's a reason why those seemingly
straightforward lyrics featuring a mock conversation between Weezy and his mom
are still quoted to this day. In the rap world, being "The Man" means
the streets respect a rapper enough that he (or she) can wear their chain
anywhere with little to no consequences arriving at their doorstep. In
mid-November of 2021, Lil Tjay was captured on camera appearing to be in a brawl on the
streets of London following a show. Rumors spread that the fight was caused by
someone attempting to take the Bronx rapper's jewelry. Not wanting that
speculation attached to his name, he quickly hopped on Instagram to set the
record straight. "If a nigga really tried to take my chain, it would have
been a lot of those right there," he said in the video clip while police
cruisers coincidentally rode by. "I ain't gon' lie." In this world, few things are as
symbolically deflating as getting a chain snatched. A rapper can be a mix of
Frank Lucas, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff and Optimus Prime, but their
growing legend can be demystified instantly by the casually merciless hands of
opportunistic goons. After all, no matter how many cars or social media
followers a rapper has, they're still just as vulnerable to a bullet as
the next man, and someone stealing a rapper's chain rings in a sobering reality
for both them and their legions of fans alike. In 2017, Fetty Wap found his belongings in the clutches of
anonymous chain-snatchers. The thing is, the alleged chain-snatcher was more
brazen than he was unidentifiable, and his extremely bold choice to post a
photo of himself onto Instagram wearing Fetty's chain led to his prompt arrest. |
Fat Trel has been
arrested again, less than two months after getting released from prison in
October.
According to an arrest docket obtained
by XXL on Thursday (Dec. 9), Fat
Trel, born Martrel Reeves, was arrested and booked at the Arlington County
Sheriff's Office in Arlington, Va. on Wednesday (Dec. 8) on four counts of a Revocation of Suspended Sentence and
Probation in connection to a 2018 arrest. Trel is currently in
custody awaiting bond and has a court date scheduled for Jan. 14, 2022. The details of this particular 2018
arrest are unclear. Fat Trel was released from prison in October.
The "Large Amount" rapper
was initially arrested on July 8, 2018, in Upper Marlboro, Md. on a charge of a
Gun Offender Fail to Register, but also has an arrest from August 30, 2018, in
Arlington, Va. It's uncertain if the cases are related. Reports from July of 2018 claim
that police pulled over Trel in a vehicle for a traffic violation and found
that he didn’t have any identification on him or a driver’s license because it
was previously suspended. Police also discovered a .40-caliber gun loaded with
10 rounds of ammunition. The pistol was later identified as a “ghost gun,”
which are assembled from kits and function like a real firearm. These reports,
however, have not been confirmed.

DaBaby is
on the road to redemption it seems. After the backlash following his anti-gay
rant at the 2021 Rolling Loud Miami Festival in
July, the North Carolina rapper has embarked on his own headlining tour backed
by Rolling Loud, the same festival where he made those homophobic remarks.
The Live Show Killa Tour kicked
off in Atlanta earlier this month without a hitch. The trek will resume next
year, hitting 20 major cities, starting with Boston on Jan. 11, 2022. Other
cities on the schedule include Philadelphia, Detroit, Nashville, Tenn.,
Minneapolis, Houston, Chicago and more.

The 33-year-old suspect brandished a gun and reached across the counter to try and steal cash from the register. An employee tried to fight off the suspect, leading to a struggle that led to the suspect strangling the employee.
A 64-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a woman at a tennis club in Wilmington, North Carolina, this week before turning the gun on himself, according to police.
Police were called to Holly Tree Racquet Club around 5:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday on reports of a shooting. The female victim was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene after a Wilmington Police Department officer attempted life-saving aid. The suspect, 64-year-old Dimitre Dimitrov, was transported to a local hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound but was later pronounced dead. The Holly Tree Racquet Club frequently hosts clinics for children on its 10 tennis courts, which are located just a few miles from the beach. The Wilmington Police Department said no one else was injured. “No children were physically injured during this shooting. This is an isolated incident and is domestic in nature,” the police department said this week. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and her family.” Dimitrov and the victim were going through a divorce at the time with both of them lodging physical and verbal abuse allegations against each other in court filings, WECT reports. They were also in a custody battle for their 12-year-old son after separating in September, according to the local news outlet. “The tragic event that occurred last night at Holly Tree racquet club was the result of a domestic violence dispute between a husband and his wife. The husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. The victims were not members of our tennis facility. Our thoughts and prayers are with the surviving family,” the tennis club said in a statement to the local news outlet. Reports of domestic violence increased globally between 25% and 33% as governments put stay-at-home orders in place and limited travel, according to a study in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine. |
