Drakeo The Ruler Case: Talent Organizer Says Rapper "Walked Into The Lion's Pit"

A talent organizer claims there was a lack of security and people were being turned away because the backstage area was "too packed to get in."

There hasn't been much shared about the status of Drakeo The Ruler's murder case. The beloved Los Angeles rapper was reportedly stabbed in the neck while attending the Once Upon a Time in L.A. concert over the weekend and since that time, there has been an outpouring of grief over the tragic loss. The Los Angeles Timespenned a lengthy article about the status of the investigation that included speaking with a talent organizer for Once Upon a Time in L.A. who wanted to remain anonymous. According to the source, Drakeo was scheduled to perform on the G-Unit stage at 8:30 p.m. but the concert was running behind. The talent organizer told the L.A. Times that he saw "many attendees in the VIP area wearing red clothing as a potential sign of their Blood affiliation." They also alleged that there was a lack of security backstage, adding, “I probably saw at most two armed individuals, and they were at the VIP entrance telling people to turn away because it was too packed to get in." However, music manager Robert “Smoov” Bryant, contested that there was ample security on the grounds.

“Some had USC gear, you had event security, artist security and you had officers from the LAPD stationed in that area,” Bryant said. “I felt very secure.”

Video of the assault shows a swarm of people involved in the melee, with many passersby watching from the perimeter. Once Drakeo falls to the ground, a half-dozen young men continue to attack him.

One eyewitness to the fight said that the security response was surprisingly slow. The eyewitness said he saw “no security remotely near there.” Security would have “had plenty of time to break up the fight, but there was maybe one guard trying to help,” said the person, who asked not to be identified so he could speak freely about what he saw.

Officer Luis Garcia, an LAPD spokesman, stated that investigators are trying to piece together what exactly occurred, but the talent organizer offered his opinion.

Drakeo walked into the lions’ pit," he said. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. We continue to offer our sincerest condolences to Drakeo's loved ones.

TikTok Just Announced It's Opening a Restaurant Chain

Call it life imitating art, or something close to that. What started off as viral recipe videos inspiring hordes of social media users to experiment in their own kitchens has now translated into a brand new restaurant chain.

According to Business Insider, video sharing platform TikTok is planning to open a number of ghost kitchens across the United States in the coming months under the name TikTok Kitchens. The virtual restaurant chain will serve TikTok's greatest food hits, which means you'll now be able to try these craveable concoctions without setting foot in a kitchen—they'll instead be made by professional cooks.

The Best Viral Food Trends in 2021

You likely saw some of the widest-spread viral TikTok food videos–you may even have cooked up a few yourself. There was the Baked Feta Pasta that caused a cheese shortage in Finland, the Corn Ribs and the Pasta Chips that racked up "likes" numbering in the millions, and so on. All of these items will be making an appearance on TikTok Kitchens' menu. However, that's only the beginning—the company said the offerings will change seasonally and based on what's trending.

Proving itself ever enterprising, TikTok has harnessed the popularity of viral food videos and turned them into a delivery-only restaurant business. But the platform said the proceeds from sales will go toward supporting the creators of their #FoodTok content (although it's unclear exactly how it will be used.)

For now, we know that the platform plans to open 300 ghost kitchen locations by March and as many as 1,000 locations by the end of 2022. These kitchens will operate from the locations of other national restaurant chains like Buca di Beppo and Bertucci's, and other restaurants across the country can apply to host the TikTok Kitchens brand in their establishment.

TikTok has partnered with Virtual Dining Concepts, a company that specializes in virtual restaurant development, on this venture. As far as the deliveries go, GrubHub will be the concept's main delivery partner.

14-year-old girl in dressing room killed by LAPD in shooting that also left suspect dead

A teenage girl at a Burlington clothing store was killed by a bullet from an LAPD officer during a chaotic shooting Thursday that killed the alleged suspect and wounded another person. Preliminary information released by the Los Angeles Police Department indicated that police rounds penetrated a wall, killing the 14-year old in a dressing room. LAPD Chief Michel Moore, who was out of town with family but briefed on the incident, called the girl’s shooting “devastating and tragic” in an interview with The Times on Thursday evening. “It’s just absolutely heartbreaking, and I cannot find words to try to comfort a mother and a family, but I will ensure them and the public and our people that we will conduct a complete and thorough investigation.” Officers responded around 11:45 a.m. to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon at the store near Victory and Laurel Canyon boulevards, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
At the store, authorities encountered a man they said was assaulting someone, and they opened fire, according to preliminary findings by the Police Department. It was not immediately clear what prompted officers to shoot. The man was taken into custody and died at the scene, said LAPD Officer Drake Madison, a spokesperson for the department. During a search for additional suspects or victims, an officer found the slain girl who had been struck by a round fired by the responding officers, LAPD officials said in a Twitter post. “As officers contacted the suspect and OIS occurred, one of the officer’s rounds penetrated a wall that was behind the suspect, beyond that wall was a dressing room. Officers search the dressing room and found a 14 year old female victim who was struck by gunfire,” the tweet from the LAPD’s public information officer read. Another woman was injured and taken to a trauma center, said Nicholas Prange, a spokesperson with the Fire Department. Her condition wasn’t immediately known. Moore said police were still pulling video of the encounter, including from multiple closed-circuit cameras within the store, but that it appeared the girl was in a dressing room with her mother when she was struck by a bullet fired by an officer on the other side of a wall. “We have a young girl who was in a dressing room behind a wall that my understanding was in the path of where the officer fired,” Moore said. “This is a devastating and tragic circumstance, and it occurred during the actions of one of our officers.” William Briggs, president of the civilian Police Commission that reviews all police shootings and decides whether the involved officers were justified in opening fire or should face administrative sanction or punishment, also called the shooting tragic and promised it would be thoroughly investigated.
“I’m being kept apprised and I’m being assured this is getting the highest attention in terms of investigation,” Briggs said. “That’s what they’re going through now.” California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said the California Department of Justice would investigate the shooting under rules set by a new law — Assembly Bill 1506 — that took effect July 1 requiring his office to independently investigate all fatal police shootings of unarmed civilians. “Preliminary investigation indicates that one of the deaths fell within the scope of AB 1506,” according to a statement by Bonta’s office. After the investigation is complete, findings will be turned over to the state justice department’s special prosecutions section for independent review, according to the statement.
Moore said it did not appear that the officer who fired “would have known that there was anyone behind there or that he was looking at anyone other than the suspect and a wall,” but said every aspect of what occurred and why would be analyzed by LAPD investigators. “There’s not a police officer in America who would ever want this type of circumstance to occur,” Moore stressed. Moore said Deputy Chief Dominic Choi, who is acting chief in Moore’s absence, was on scene and had been provided a walk through of the incident. At a news conference Thursday, Choi said the area behind the suspect “just looks like a straight wall.” Investigators continued processing the scene and hadn’t found a firearm as of the afternoon, he said. A “very heavy” metal cable lock was found near the suspect. Choi said it wasn’t yet clear whether the lock prompted officers to shoot. To provide full transparency, Moore said he has directed that the department compile and release by Monday body-worn and closed-circuit video of the incident, as well as radio calls and other available information. He said the store has “an extensive amount” of cameras installed. The full investigation of the shooting, however, will take longer, he said. “We’re asking for the public and the news media as well to allow us to conduct a full investigation,” Moore said. “The facts will be the facts, and we’ll have them known.”
